Coralee's shares: 1) My Location Booklet - this booklet is for Step 1 ELD students to help them to learn a few words from Geography and to help them orient to Canada and their home in Ontario. Students will learn map skills, write pattern sentences, practice printing and learn how to pronounce new words.
2) Canada's Government Booklet - this project helps Step 2 ELD students to learn about the 3 branches of government in Canada, their representatives, and the responsibilities of different levels of government. Students will learn research skills, vocabulary, map skills, and sentence writing. Patricia's share: ELD students can listen to picture books read to them in English and many other languages at this wonderful website: Unite For Literacy
Patricia shared a template for students to follow up on reading by studying vocabulary and journal writing. |
Tawney's share: this workbook supports ELDs reading the Shadows Novel series, a high interest low vocabulary 8 book set that is great for ELDs because it allows them to enjoy mature themes through accessible text (gr 1-2 level decoding). Tawney provides a great model utilizing vocabulary study, dictation, pattern sentences, reflection, repetition and guided reading - my experience is this works really well for Intermediate and Senior Step 1-3 ELD program and Step 1 ESL program ELLs! Thanks Tawney :-)Daniela's share: working from the cute and catchy musical videos about Pete the Cat and his colourful shoes, Daniela has created materials that allow you to teach vocabulary, sentence building, spelling, cloze and more! For PDF versions of the resources that are copyright free, click here. Pete the Cat has a kind of Cool factor that allows you to use him with older students too!
There are also some great free activities and more from preKautism.com relating to Pete the Cat! Pete the Cat's Four Groovey Buttons offers another great song and video. Pete the Cat and His Magic Sunglasses |
